Google's SEO Starter Guide

November 13, 2008 in Happy Links

Googlewebmastercentral A quick guide to SEO best practices (i.e. things you should do on your site to be viewed favorably by Google such that you show up high in their organic search listings), only this one is put out by Google proper. Nothing too revolutionary here, but it's worth a careful review given the source. It's a nicely put-together 22 page PDF.

Its all crap!
There was nothing amazing told in the google seo report.
Its just another seo basics report which you can learn from each of the millions of blogs on SEO.

Nah it's not crap. As I indicated, it's educational which of the "basics" Google itself chose to emphasize. The education isn't so much in the SEO tips (for those of us who found nothing new), but in which SEO tips are included.

It's not crap and its not great. I will call it mediocre. It has some good tips on on-page optimization but does not mention anything about off-page. So in a sense the guide is incomplete (I am hoping they would add on to it).

I found a conflicting view on the "user friendly URL structure" and one of their blog post "Dynamic URLs vs. Static URLs".

Groundbreaking no, but it was far from useless, remember some people know nothing about SEO.

wow, really cool. I use most of the Google tools (love Google) and was wondering if there was a recent overview that was totally up-to-date.

Thank you!
