Happy Quote

November 9, 2007 in Happy Quotes

"Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn’t do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover."
— Mark Twain

That Twain was a smart cookie. One day I came to the same realization, and overnight I went from thinking I had no regrets to realizing that my life was full of them. Not a positive change, perhaps, but a profound one.

Mark Twain was disappointed at the end of his life by the mere fact that most people didn't acknowledge him by his real name, and he lived in age which was far less branded and certainly not full of the choices we have today.

It is true that only by doing do you make the mistakes that make you realize what you should not have done, and I guess that is where this quote is most relevant today, it isn't that much safer doing nothing at all, indeed unless one wants to live life like in a manner that resembles Gunther von Hagen best work, it is prudent to appreciate the wisdom in this quote.

What often scares me is the challenge "to dare to be different" and just being the same, doing in this regard is not only an authentic flow but it should contain enough spirit to call the doing, a life.
