Happy Quote
August 24, 2006 in Happy Quotes"Your time is limited, so don’t waste it living someone else’s life. Don’t be trapped by dogma - which is living with the results of other people’s thinking. Don’t let the noise of others’ opinions drown out your own inner voice. And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They somehow already know what you truly want to become. Everything else is secondary."
-Steve Jobs
Certainly a happy, motivating quote :) Thanks!

What? This is relativism drawn out to its ridiculous, untenable conclusion. Labelling "other people's thinking" with the negative "dogma" is incredibly naive. Real people, unlike Jobs' imaginary vision of himself, must rely largely on other people's opinions - the sum of their learning from their own mistakes. If not, then what value is there in history?

I have to agree with Bryce. This is the kind of quote my boss probably has tattooed on the inside of his eyelids - much to the detriment of everyone who works for him. The simple fact is that most people aren't smart enough to make iconoclasm work. This sentiment would work better if, at the end, Jobs acknowledged that what he's really talking about is ignoring your own inner critic.

It was not that bad. It was just long and hitting around the bush. It could have been shortened and went straight to the point. What was the point anyway?

Real people rely on other people's opinions? No, fake people do. This is a very insightful quote from, what I'd say, an enlightened being. Spoken just like a child not awaiting anybody's approval but theirs.
Thanks for the inspiration!
